Asom Gana Parishad confident of forming next government Guwahati, Mar 21 : Opposition Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today exuded confidence of forming the next government in the state with an absolute majority. ''We are confident of doing well in the polls and forming the next government on our own,'' AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary said, releasing the party’s election manifesto. He said the AGP has not entered into any 'secret understanding' with any party and post-poll equations could throw up options. Former two-time chief minister and ex-party president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta was also present when Patowary released the 25-point manifesto. A product of the Assam agitation against Bangladeshi infiltration, the AGP has once again promised of implementing the historic Assam Accord, signed on August 15, 1985, to end the agitation. Among the other election promises are solving the militancy problem and establishing peace, rooting out corruption and providing employment opportunities. Besides, the AGP also outlined its take on the big dams issue, preventing floods and erosion and measures for inclusive growth of all communities. The state goes to the polls in two phases on April 4 and 11. .
