Babus beat netas in Corrupt People Poll in Mizoram

Aizawl, Sep 22 : Government officials have outnumbered politicians in the Corrupt People Poll, 2009, in Mizoram, conducted by PRISM.

Peoples Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram (PRISM) president Vanlalruata said here today, ''Right now, we are scrutinising the authenticity of the votes as there could have been baseless allegations out of personal hatred.''.

Four ballot boxes had been placed in four important locations in Aizawl, into which as many as 188 ballot papers bearing 200 names, most of them government officials, were cast. Ballot boxes had also been placed in each capital of the eight districts.

Further, PRISM, in association with other organisations, is organising a state-wide 'Anti-Corruption Convention' at Aizawl on October 3.

''The delegates will decide whether or not to publicise the names of the alleged corrupt people. Anyway, our organisation will file FIRs with the state Anti-Corruption Bureau based on these votes,'' Vanlaruata said.

PRISM also made it very clear that the move was not meant to defame particular persons, but a campaign to eliminate corruption from the society.

PRISM was formed in 2006 with the sole objective of eradicating corruption in the state. It has filed 27 FIRs with the state ACB and seven PILs with Gauhati High Court, all against misappropriation of public money, including alleged disproportionate wealth of former Chief Minister Zoramthanga to his known sources of income.

Zoramthanga's case is pending in the High Court.

In a recent most case, state animal husbandry and veterinary director Dr C Sangnghina had been suspended following a graft case registered against him by the ACB which acted on Prism's FIR.
