First H1N1 positive case detected in Nagaland 

Kohima, Sep 21 : The first ever case of Swine Flu has been detected in Nagaland as an Army personnel, who carried the virus all along from Pune, where he had gone on a leave, has been tested positive of H1N1. 

Nagaland Nodal Officer of the Interpreted Disease Surveillance Project (Pandemic preparedness) Dr Kevichusa Medikhru disclosed that the Army jawan was on leave to a place near Pune, his hometown, and came back to Rangapahar cantonment on September 14. 

On September 17, he visited the Army Hospital in Rangapahar following cold and influenza-like symptoms, which the Army doctors suspected as H1N1, and accordingly collected the swab samples from him and sent them to the district hospital, from where it was sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Dibrugarh (Assam). 

The RMRC authorities conveyed the report as positive the next day i.e. on Friday. The patient is under treatment in the Army hospital in Rangapahar, the officer informed. 

This is the first and only case so far detected in Nagaland and the state health authorities are keeping strict vigil in all the districts of Nagaland for possible infiltration of the viral disease, especially in Dimapur and other entry points from outside the state.
