CPC appeals not to call agitation during Durga Puja in Meghalaya

Shillong, Sep 19 : The Central Puja Committee (CPC) in Meghalaya has appealed to all major organisations in the state not to call agitation during the Durga Puja celebrations.

Speaking to the media here yesterday, general secretary of the CPC Mr J L Das said, a meeting of CPC with high government officials was held on September 17 to chalk out strategies for peaceful celebrations of puja.

The meeting which was convened by the state chief secretary has decided that all possible measures would be taken by the administration to ensure a peaceful Puja in the state, Mr Das said, adding the CPC would conduct an environment-friendly measure where it would conduct a cleaning drive in a river where immersion would be held.

This year's puja celebrations include a get-together on harmony on September 23, a puja visit by physically challenged children on September 25, an annual harmony puja visit by social leaders on September 26, SK Das drum competition on September 27 and Dusserah celebration on September 28, Mr Das added.
