Over 700 doctors appointed for rural areas in Assam

Guwahati, Sep 16 : More than 700 fresh graduates drawn from three medical colleges in Assam were today appointed at rural hospitals across the state for a term of one year.

Altogether 768 doctors were issued their appointment letters for compulsory one-year rural posting by state Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma here.

The appointments have been made under the National Rural Health Mission and in keeping with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi’s commitment in last Budget regarding appointing doctors in all rural health centres of the state.

The state has made one-year rural posting mandatory for all medical graduates before they are eligible to take even the test for pursuing specialty courses in the state medical colleges.

The doctors would be paid a fixed stipend and provided government accommodation, with provision for special leave before the qualifying tests to prepare for the examinations.
