Assam not to concede land to neighbouring states: Pradyut Bordoloi

Guwahati, Sep 16 : The Assam government today reaffirmed its stand of not conceding an inch of its territory to any neighbouring state, though Assam would not adopt a confrontational attitude while dealing with encroachment on any disputed land.

Addressing a press meet here, state government spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Pradyut Bordoloi said, ''There are disputes regarding territory with our neighbouring states and a committee constituted by the Supreme Court is settling it. We will not adopt any inflammatory stand if any problem erupts in those areas.'' ''However, we will not allow any state to encroach our land even by an inch,'' he added.

Playing down reported recent skirmishes along Nagaland border, he said, ''Such disputes are basically localised and do not necessarily present the government's views.'' He said the issue was sorted out amiably and local ministers were monitoring the situation to ensure that the situation did not flare up again.

The minister urged individuals and organistaions to refrain from trying to create sensation in disputed areas even over minor issues.
