DKNRH demands special committee on border problems

Shillong, Sep 15 : An NGO in Meghalaya has demanded setting up of a special committee comprising state government, BSF, traditional heads and land owners to look into the problems faced by the people settled in border areas with Bangladesh.

Chairman of the NGO 'Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep' (DKNRH) John F Kharshiing, in a communique issued here yesterday, said the Special Committee was required as villagers in the border areas were facing difficulty due to the skirmishes between the BSF and BDR.

Mr Kharshiing said he had received many complaints regarding the BSF move to check land documents belonging to many border villages and urged them not to submit their land documents to the BSF as villagers would find it difficult to communicate due to differences in language.

The villagers should approach the state government and traditional heads in any difficulty they face, Mr Kharshiing added.
