IGNOU launches course for farming community in NE Agartala, Sep 15 : In a bid to educate the farming communities about scientific methods of agricultural production and expansion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched various short-term entrepreneurship development programmes for Northeast. Head of IGNOU School of Agriculture Prof BS Hansra told mediapersons here today that as many as 11 courses related to agriculture and allied sectors, besides state specific courses for Northeast, were launched recently to facilitate faming communities and entrepreneurs. To popularise and make the initiative successful, IGNOU Tripura Regional Centre had organised a brain-storming session with the experts of respective fields of Northeast here yesterday and a comprehensive strategy was formulated for successful conduct of the courses, Prof Hansra said. ''IGNOU is going to start Bio-fertiliser and Bio-pesticide production course for Tripura and seven other state specific courses, besides Horticultural nursery management, honey production and processing and value addition of fruits and vegetables,'' Prof Hansra underlined. He added that IGNOU had launched the initiatives to coordinate, promote, assess and accredit institutions and programmes offered by open and distance learning system for disadvantaged sections of the society of Northeast though ICT and other conventional modes of learning.
