Educational institutes in Manipur closed despite police assurance

Imphal, Sep 15 : Educational institutes continued to remain closed for the seventh consecutive day today to protest the alleged fake encounter cases in Manipur despite the police's appeal to reopen the schools and assurance to take up security measures.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal West District, L Kailun appealed to the student community, parents and school/college authorities to attend and hold classes which have been suspended following the boycott call given by the All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) and Manipuri Students Federation (MSF).

State Education Minister L Jayentakumar had appealed to AMSU to suspend the class boycott stir in the interest of the student communities but the AMSU rejected the appeal.

The SP said stringent security arrangements had been made in and around the schools and colleges to prevent any disturbance by agitators.

The AMSU had launched the class boycott stir to support the movement launched by the Working Committee of Apunba Lup (WCAL) against fake encounter killings.
