Stir against fake encounter killings continues in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 14 : Various organisations and student bodies continued their stir and educational institutes remained closed for the sixth consecutive day today to protest fake encounter killings in the state.

The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) had urged the student community to boycott classes to protest fake encounter killings in the state.

Education Minister L Jayentakumar had appealed to AMSU to suspend the class boycott stir in the interest of the student communities but the AMSU rejected the appeal. The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) also supported the movement.

The Working Committee of Apunba Lup (WCAL) was spearheading the movement in the state which gained momentum after the July 23 Khwairamband bazar fake encounter incident.

Sit-in protests were also carried out at various parts of the state.

Last night at Lamsang, Imphal West, police resorted to firing of tear gas shells, rubber bullets to disperse a protest rally near the residence of Rabina who died on July 24 at Khwairamband.

The Ibobi Singh government had ordered a Judicial probe into the incident and suspension of seven police personnel. However, the WCAL and other organisations rejected the probe. They contended that over a dozen Judicial enquiries had been held earlier and no action was taken up after completion of the enquiries.
