Rio asks Gogoi to restrain students

Kohima, Sep 14 : Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has written to his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi to advise and restrain the student community, alleging that they were making provocative movement and demonstration at Naginimora area of Mon district.

Official sources here today said in his letter Mr Rio stated that the actions of the Assam students had alarmed the student community of Nagaland and ''if the situation is not immediately brought under control, there is possibility of violent clash in the border areas.'

' Reminding that the border dispute between Assam and Nagaland was under adjudication by the Supreme Court, which is regularly conducting hearings on the issue, Mr Rio stated that it would be foolhardy on the part of any state to resort to violent activities and demonstrations.

He sought Mr Gogoi's immediate intervention to see that the student community from Assam is properly advised and restrained from precipitating the matter.
