LIC to set up satellite offices in NE Region Guwahati, Sep 10: Life insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has charted out expansion plans in the Northeast India. The corporation plans to set up substantial number of satellite offices to increase its reach in many remote and inaccessible areas of the region. Managing director of LIC, A.K Dasgupta said that the corporation will soon set up customer care centre in Guwahati. “We are taking steps to reach out to the customers in the Northeast region,” The corporation also plans to set up premium point in Guwahati whereby authorized agents can collect premiums from the customer. Sources in the corporation added, “We will set up another six to 10 satellite offices Northeast. The satellite offices are different from the conventional offices and two or three officials perform basic insurance functions in satellite office,” The corporation has four divisional offices in the Northeast and the seven states of the region come under Eastern zone. Together in the four divisions there are about 66 offices and 30 satellite offices. Sources added, “Couple of satellite offices will become functional shortly. We are setting satellite office in Udulguri in Assam, near Guwahati two such offices will also come. We are also in talks with Assam government for rolling out rural agents in the village areas. We are discussing this scheme with employment exchanges. The agents recruited under this will be paid stipend and commission,”
