Seniors burn alive student in Assam

Guwahati, Sep 8 : A student of Dimoria College, situated in the suburbs of Guwahati, was burnt to death by fellow students in a fit of inebriated rage following a minor altercation over a T-shirt.

According to reports received here, three senior students, with whom the victim, Nitumoni Das, shared rented accommodation, poured kerosene on him when he refused to allow one of them to wear one of his T-shirts and set him on fire.

The trio was in a drunken state and abused Nitumoni, both physically and verbally, before setting him on fire.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon. The perpetrators rushed Nitumoni to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and also informed his family when they found the situation slipping out of hand.

Nitumoni’s father said that his son had received serious burns and succumbed at a private nursing home this morning.

The earlier developments which led to the incident were revealed by Nitumoni to his father before his death.

The three students have been identified as Prafulla Kumar Das, Morom and Ashim, of whom Ashim has been caught while the other two are absconding.

Nitumoni’s family has registered a case with the local Khetri police station.

Another first year student of the same college, Chintamoni Bordoloi, had committed suicide by coming under a running train last month following ragging in the college hostel, where he was a boarder.

Both the victims hailed from Morigaon district.
