Love in 1976, marriage in 2009 

Guwahati, Sep 2 : Assam folk singer Dwipen Barua married his girlfriend after 33 long years, signalling the world a new meaning of true love. 

Dwipen Barua, who shot to fame in the late sixties and emerged as a teenage sensation on the cultural stage of Assam, and his lady love Syeda Jotsna Rahman(59) finally entered the wedlock on August 21 in presence of a few friends and relatives. 

He made it public last night sparking a wave of happiness and celebration among his fans and relatives. 

''How long I will wait? I told my elder brother Ramen Barua, one of the great music directors of Assam about my decision. He was excited and immediately told his wife and the nephews and nieces. 

The bride will come home after Ramzan,'' the elated singer said. 

''This is the best news I have heard in this year. I convey my best wishes to them ,'' Bhupen Hazarika said from his home in Mumbai after being informed about the development by the media. 

Dwipen met Joytsna Rahman during the filming of popular film 'Taramai' (1976). It was love at first sight for them but family compulsion stopped them from taking the plunge then. 

Their romance and patience were the most talked-about things in Assamese cultural world and many films were inspired by them. 

''I cannot express how happy we all are for this. Everybody loves a love story. Dwipenda’s case is even more special,'' Zubeen Garg, a current heartthrob said. 

A shy Dwipen one of the evergreen singers of Assam, informed that after decades of a gypsy-like life, he would be setting up his home at his ancestral house at Guwahati and would be buying some worldly possessions. 

''I think I deserve some basic facilities,'' he said, adding that the formal ritual ceremony of marriage would take place on September 21. 

''This is a must because the nephews, nieces and grand children are after me and they are not going to leave me alone. But that will be a strictly family affair with few friends,'' he said.
