Dimapur is epicenter of HIV/AIDS in Nagaland: Dr Vinito

Kohima, Aug 29 : Dimapur has become the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS for the state, Nagaland State Coordinator of UNAIDS Dr Vinito L Chishi said.

Dr Vinito was speaking in the Advocacy Campaign on HIV/AIDS, organised by Network of Naga People Living with HIV/AIDS, in collaboration with Dimapur Baptist Women Union and supported by the Legislators’ Forum on AIDS in Nagaland.

Dr Vinito said that there was no Nagaland on the global map of HIV/AIDS but today the state has been marked red because of HIV/AIDS prevalence and appealed all to join the campaign against the pandemic disease.

''We were alarmed about the Swine Flu deaths today, but what about HIV/AIDS, which we have been hearing for more than ten years?'' he asked and quoted the official reports of over 14,000 people being affected by HIV/AIDS globally everyday.

Senior Congress leader and MLA I Imkong informed that the world is faced with the three-dimensional threat of--global warming, global terrorism and global HIV/AIDS-- and it was high time to stand up to the threat with courage.

Congress MLA Imtisunget Jamir, Dimapur Municipal Council Chairman Khekaho Assumi and a host of police officers, students and parents attended the meeting.
