Fund becomes constrain for NREGS in Tripura

Agartala, Aug 27 : The slow release of fund allocated for implementation of the Centrally sponsored National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) has emerged as a major constrain for mandays generation and social wealth management in the state.

Talking to media here today, Rural Development Minister Jitendra Choudhury said Tripura had so far received only Rs 325 crore of the total allocation of Rs 900 crore for NREGS in 2009-10 fiscal that affected the schemes execution.

Mr Choudhury had reviewed the status yesterday and instructed the administrations concerned to create average double mandays to 40 by October. Currently it is 23.

Though NREGS was initiated to generate jobs, the state government would now stress on creation of wealth through plantation, irrigation, water-harvesting and road development, he said.

The Minister also informed, as many as 243 village roads were identified for making brick soling under the National Flagship Programme.

In order to ensure transparency in NRGES implementation, the government has decided to provide internet connection to 500 gram panchayats and convert the entire record into e-mode, he added.
