Bangladesh agrees to speed up custom formalities 

Agartala, Aug 26 : The Indo-Bangladesh customs commissioners' level meeting held here yesterday resolved to expedite the process of custom clearance for the import-export business along the border. 

Official sources here today said that Bangladesh had assured to take up the issue related to speedy dispatch of the consignments to the nearest land custom stations.

These consignments would come through Bangladesh sea port for the Northeastern states as well as to issue immediate clearance for the perishable goods coming via Bangladesh

Altogether 13 officials of both the countries attended the meeting. 

while, Regional Customs Commissioner based in Shillong Mr M R Barua headed the six member Indian team, Customs & VAT Affairs Commissioner, Dhaka Northern Circle Mahamad Enayet Hussein was leading the seven member Bangladeshi team.

Bangladesh urged India to upgrade facilities in all Land Customs Stations (LCS) in Northeastern states and reopen the closed LCS. 

India however, demanded to upgrade the bordering roads in Bangladesh and other infrastructure facilities to increase business between the two countries, officials added.
