MPP wants change in Congress leadership Imphal, Aug 25 : The Manipur People's Party (MPP) has urged Congress President Sonia Gandhi to replace Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for 'allowing' killing of youths in fake encounters. MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang said a memorandum was submitted to Sonia Gandhi apprising her of the developments in the state following the July 23 incident at Khwairamband market in which a youth was allegedly killed in a fake encounter by police. The MPP had earlier organised a three day discussion on the matter and also submitted a memorandum to Governor Gurbhachan Jagat. Dr Luwang charged the CM with also misleading the Assembly on the July 23 incident about the case. Meanwhile, the Working Committee of Apunba Lup (WCAL) is spearheading a movement in Manipur against the alleged fake encounters. A BJP Parliamentary team had visited Manipur to review the situation and Union Home Secretary GK Pillai had also come to Manipur to interact with the people. Ibobi had assured to conduct a judicial inquiry into the incident and seven policemen had been suspended.
