NEC urges to set up plastic parks

Shillong, Aug 25 : Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) BK Handique has directed the North Eastern Council to assist Industrial Training Institutes located in the region to have a trade on plastic technology.

The NEC, which is the regional planning body, has also been suggested to include a project for development of plastic parks in all the states of the region, an official statement said today.

Mr Handique, who held a review meeting of the NEC in Shillong, said the Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymner Limited have the potential to create about 500 downstream projects which in turn will be able to generate about 1 lakh jobs in the next two decades.

Therefore, he said inclusion of a project for development of plastic parks in the states is viable.

''The new trade in the ITIs on plastic technology should be designed in such a way that by the year 2010, the first batch of manpower should be ready for training in the plastic parks and the existing faculty may be trained by CIPET, Guwahati,'' Mr Handique added.
