2 ULFA killed,7surrendered & camp busted in Assam

Guwahati, May 8: Seven cadres of Ulfa on Thursday surrendered before the Deputy Commissioner of the Kamrup district. The seven cadres were attached to the 27th, 109 and 709 battalions of the outfit. 

The cadres had also laid down one Austrian Grenade, one 36HE grenade and 50 electric detonators along with some extortion notes signed by the outfit. 

Kamrup Deputy Commissioner RC Jain said that the cadres were mainly operating in the city and adjoining areas of the district and added that these cadres are mainly engaged in extortion drives for the outfit. 

The cadres were identified as Joy Ram Rava alias Gunda Rava, Haren Rajbangshi alias Prasanta Hazarika, Nayan Deka alias Raju Deka, Dhaneswar Kalita alias Pradip Deka, Jeherul Haque alias Bhaiti Hazarika, Haren Kalita alias Babu Kalita and Gobinda Rabi Das alias Rabi Das. 

District Superintendent of Police Debajit Hazarika said that the surrender took place with the cooperation from the army in the city. “Some of these cadres have also been operating in Baksa,” he said and added that one of the surrendered cadres— Gobinda Rabi Das alias Rabi Das is an explosive expert of the outfit. 

Gobinda Rabi Das told that he had made several Improvised Explosive Devices and bombs in 2006, which are now under the disposal of Ranjit Nath. He joined ULFA in 2005 under Nath in 709 Battalion and undergone training at Suklaipar of Naokata, under Baksa district.  

Meanwhile, army on Thursday gunned down two cadres of the dreaded 28th battalion of the Ulfa in Tinsukia district in Upper Assam and and busted a camp of the outfit in the Dibrugarh district. 

The slain cadres were identified as Tarun Sonowal and Jetal Bora, the sources said adding that  the encounter took place at around 4.30 pm on Thursday when army personnel asked two youth to stop during a regular checkingand the youths started firing at the army. 

Two pistols and some magazines were recovered from near the bodies. 

The second incident took place around 12.30 pm when troops were conducting a regular patrolling inside the Joupur reserve forests in Dibrugarh district said army sources and added that one 9mm pistol, two kgs of unidentified powders, some rice and huge quantity of medicines were recovered from the camp.
