LS approves central rule in Nagaland

New Delhi, Feb 26: The Lok Sabha today approved the imposition of President's Rule in Nagaland, where the assembly election process is currently on.

A resolution ratifying the centre's decision was okayed by the House without any discussion and by a voice vote amidst din created by members who were creating a ruckus on some issues.

Tabling the resolution, Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal said the tenure of the Nagaland Assembly, which was kept under suspended animation while the DAN government was dismissed, is slated to expire on March 13.

Elections are slated for March 5 and the results would be declared three days later. "So it is important for this House to approve this resolution," he told the Lok Sabha.

Earlier, Jaiswal tabled a similar resolution in the Rajya Sabha, which will take it up for discussion tomorrow.
